IKEA has updated the firmware of its TRÅDFRI smart bulbs, and the upgraded bulbs are now compatible with HomeKit and Alexa. The concept of smart homes has been popular in China for some time, and smart bulbs are nothing new. Most of them need to connect to a specific router and can be controlled via a mobile app. However, complex operations and incompatibility between different products have caused smart bulbs to revert to being "non-smart" after the initial novelty wore off.
In August this year, IKEA's TRÅDFRI smart bulb finally arrived, and upon its debut, it stated that it "does not want to create a closed system." The new firmware update allows TRÅDFRI bulbs to work with HomeKit and Alexa. Now, you can set aside the IKEA app and remote control and directly control the bulbs by voice through Siri on your iPhone or iPad, or via Amazon's smart speaker Echo. Imagine coming home and saying "Open Sesame, lights on," and the room gradually brightens, making you feel like the star of a stage show.
In this update, IKEA did not mention any connection with Google Home, but I believe it won't be long before we see TRÅDFRI bulbs compatible with more smart voice assistants. Only when more smart home manufacturers break down the barriers between each other can smart home products truly make life smarter.
