A mining stray current tester is a specialized instrument used to detect stray currents in mines, which is very important for ensuring the safety of the mine's electrical system. Below is an overview of an article about the mining stray current tester, including its purpose, working principle, usage methods, and precautions.

Mining Stray Current Tester

Purpose

The mining stray current tester is mainly used for the maintenance and management of mine electrical systems, as it can detect stray currents in mines. Stray currents may cause corrosion of metal structures, malfunctions of electrical equipment, and safety hazards, so regular detection and control of stray currents are very necessary.

Working Principle

The mining stray current tester detects the presence and magnitude of stray currents by measuring the current difference between two different conductors. The instrument is usually equipped with a switch to change between different measurement ranges to accommodate different current levels.

Usage Method

Preparation: First, ensure the instrument is correctly installed and grounded. Tighten the test rod wires to the two binding posts respectively, and adjust the meter pointer to the zero scale line to ensure the instrument is zeroed.

Arranging Test Points: Place the test rods connected to the binding posts on the two points to be measured (e.g., rails, water pipes, cable sheaths, coal, ground, etc.). The two test points should be on different conductors, and the distance between them should be about 2 meters. As needed, measure every 50-100 meters, or temporarily determine test points based on specific conditions.

Adjusting Measurement Range: Based on the expected current magnitude, set the switch to the appropriate range. If the stray current magnitude is unknown beforehand, start from the highest range and gradually decrease until a suitable measurement range is found.

Reading Data: When the measuring probes are in good contact with the measured object and the meter is placed horizontally, read the indicated value on the meter, and perform necessary conversions according to the instrument instructions to obtain the corresponding current value.

Special Precautions: When no AC stray current is measured at a location, DC stray current should also be tested, and vice versa. Additionally, during measurement, ensure that the hard alloy of the measuring probe is in good contact with the measured object.

Precautions

Before use, the pointer must be set to the zero position, i.e., zero adjustment.

Ensure good contact between the measuring probe and the measured object to ensure accurate readings.

When the measured current exceeds 5A, the instrument should only be used for short-term measurements to prevent overheating or damage to components.

As needed, stray voltage values can be measured. The relationship between the range and current value is: 50mA corresponds to 0.2V, 250mA to 1V, 1A to 4V, 5A to 20V, and 10A to 40V (i.e., current value multiplied by 4 gives the corresponding voltage value).

Summary

The mining stray current tester is an important tool for ensuring the safety of mine electrical systems. Correct use of this instrument can help staff detect and handle stray current problems in a timely manner, thereby avoiding potential dangers. Please strictly follow the operating procedures when using it to ensure measurement accuracy and safety.
