The lightning counter calibrator, also known as the arrester discharge counter tester
is a specialized testing device used in the power system for "physical examination" of arrester monitors.
In simple terms, the arrester is a "shield" protecting power equipment, while the counter on the arrester is a notebook recording "how many times the shield was struck by lightning." The function of the lightning counter calibrator is to artificially simulate lightning to test whether this "notebook" is sensitive and accurate, ensuring it hasn't "jammed" due to moisture or corrosion.
⚙️ Core Purpose and Importance
Arrester discharge counters are typically installed outdoors, and long-term operation can easily lead to moisture or water ingress due to poor sealing, causing internal components to corrode and eventually leading to counter malfunction.
Core Function: This instrument can simulate standard lightning waves to forcibly trigger the counter action. By observing whether the counter advances normally, maintenance personnel can judge the health status of the arrester monitoring device.
Regulatory Requirements: According to relevant power industry regulations, to ensure data reliability, arrester counters need to be inspected and calibrated at least once a year.
