Cable Fault Location and Detection Instrument

At 11:50 on February 21, the Yabuli Power Supply Station of Shangzhi Electric Power Company under State Grid Harbin Power Supply Company received a call reporting an internal power failure at the Panda Pavilion in Yabuli Ski Resort, urgently requiring professional assistance.

Due to continuous snowfall in recent days and a shortage of snow-clearing personnel, the roads were rugged and difficult to traverse. The repair crew arrived at the scene at 12:30. Upon inspection, it was determined that the cable joint in the middle of the underground cable well had failed and needed to be replaced. The repair crew immediately began making the cable joint. As the space inside the cable well was cramped, barely allowing personnel to stand, and considering that the power equipment of the Panda Pavilion was user-owned and the crew was unfamiliar with its condition, they did not leave immediately after completing the repair. Five minutes after successful power restoration, as the crew was about to leave, another fault occurred. Further inspection revealed a fault in the terminal cable joint of the cable well, and the crew resumed repair work. The repair was completed at 21:30, and the Panda Pavilion lit up again, with the indoor temperature gradually rising, putting the person in charge at ease.

Just as the person in charge of the Panda Pavilion was expressing gratitude to the repair crew, the crew's phone rang. The Yawangsi Hotel in the ski resort, which served as a centralized isolation point for epidemic prevention and control by the Yabuli government, had suddenly lost power. The hotel housed multiple close contacts of COVID-19 patients who were under centralized isolation. As the hotel's dedicated electrician was unable to arrive, they urgently requested help from the power department. After answering the call, the repair crew immediately headed to Yawangsi Hotel, reminding each other to be careful and re-checking protective measures before entering the hotel for troubleshooting. Yawangsi Hotel is a five-star hotel with many rooms and a large area, and with the night making it difficult to see the wiring, the crew spent nearly an hour troubleshooting before finally finding two tripped switches.

It was already 23:30 when the repair crew finished handling the fault and returned to Yabuli. They had worked continuously for 11 hours without a sip of water or a bite to eat.

When asked about their feelings, they said, "We are also afraid amid the epidemic, but no matter how afraid we are, we must go. We, as power workers, guard the light and are always on the road." (Zhang Bozong)
