Power cable faults generally fall into two categories: low resistance (short circuit) and high resistance (open circuit) faults. The instrument tests cable faults based on the principle that when electrical waves propagate through a cable, reflection waves are generated at points where the characteristic impedance changes. Then, based on the propagation speed of the electrical wave in the cable and the time represented by the characteristic inflection points of the two reflected waves, the distance from the fault point to the testing end can be measured.
Calculation formula: S=VT/2
S represents the distance from the fault point to the testing end
V represents the propagation speed of the electrical wave in the cable
T represents the time required for the electrical wave to travel back and forth in the cable
Thus, when V and T are determined, S, the accurate distance from the fault point to the testing end, can be calculated.

Cable Fault Detector Product Features:
1. The cable fault tester can test various faults of power cables with voltage levels up to 35KV. The propagation speeds of electrical waves for four common cable types, including oil-impregnated paper cables, cross-linked polyethylene cables, non-dripping cables, and PVC cables, are pre-set in the instrument.
2. Testing distance: Double-ended testing distance >16km.
3. Single-ended blind zone distance: <15 meters. (Refers to low-voltage pulse method. High-voltage method has no blind zone.)
4. Four waveform sampling frequencies: 40MHz, 20MHz, 10MHz, 5MHz.
5. Low-voltage pulse widths: 0.1μs, 0.2μs, 0.5μs, 2μs.
6. Error: Relative error less than ±2%. Precision fault location error less than 10cm.
7. Resolution: V/2f (meters)
V: Propagation speed of electrical wave in the cable.
f: Actual sampling frequency.
8. LCD display: 320×240 dot matrix, 6 inches.
9. The cable fault tester uses a single vertical line optical cursor. After positioning the cursor, moving it can directly display the distance from the fault point to the testing end on the screen.
10. Equipped with an "expert system". After obtaining test waveforms and related parameters, if you need to save the waveforms and parameters, you can use the instrument's memory to store them and print them randomly for archival purposes.
